Medical Marijuana Banned From Apartment Complex

Marijuana Banned From Complex

Marijuana at an apartment complex probably isn’t the best thing for those who aren’t using.  The Pointe at South Mountain apartment complex reminded their residents of this just a little while ago. This includes the use of medical marijuana.

Jay’s (resident)Statement:

I thought it was an infringement on people who use this medically. But if someone needed this medically, I think that’s terrible and awfully wrong.

While people might have to have medical marijuana for whatever reason, when they signed their lease they knew that the substance wasn’t allowed on the grounds.

If people keep “forgetting” these rules, the owners say that there will be “consequences”.

According to the Arizona Medical Marijuana Law, it only keeps the property owners from discriminating against those who use it. However, Federally it’s still illegal so they do still have the full power to say if they want it on their property or not.

If you want free range to use your medical marijuana whenever and wherever you want, the best bet is to buy your own home since there’s no laws making property owners to allow you to smoke.

Medical Marijuana Banned from College Campus

When you think of a college campus you think/hope of kids studying and working hard towards their future’s. Of course it’s college so yes, there will be partying. Doesn’t mean that the campus will allow marijuana on their property, whether it’s medical marijuana or not.

Now court battles are happening to take action against State Lawmakers that acted illegally when they made it a crime for medical marijuana users to possess their drugs while they’re on college and university campuses.

Swann’s Statement:

To the extent a person violates such rules or prohibitions, the state can have the offending party removed or charged with trespassing. The Arizona Medical Marijuana Act does not stop it from creating such policies.

Lawmakers however, can not make criminals out of those who have to use medical marijuana.

Now the fight will begin to make sure that those who use this isn’t punished for have chronic illnesses. As long as they have their medical marijuana card, I don’t see why having it on them is such a bad thing. This is why the  medical marijuana issues need to be more resolved. You can’t set laws and not give clear guidelines.

Hopefully these regulations get fixed so that kids aren’t getting fined for being at school and having their prescribed medicine on them. Kids at school need to concentrate and if they have a condition that causes them to need medical marijuana then they shouldn’t be penalized for their medical condition. Let’s hope the new regulations are fixed fast and there aren’t any more kids that are kicked out of a higher education for this!

From Meth to Child Abuse San Diego Doesn’t Lack Diversity

Drone Used to Smuggle Meth Near San Diego

People use all sorts of means to try smuggle drugs and other things into the United States. Now a twenty-five year old United States citizen has been charged for using a drone to try to smuggle a little over thirteen pounds of meth from Mexico into the Untied States.

According to the reports, Jorge Edwin Rivera told the police that he was using the drone to smuggle the drugs five or six times since march. Rivera told them that he usually delivered them to a nearby gas station to an accomplice in San Diego. According to the report, he was reportedly going to make around $1,000.

The Border Patrol agents in San Diego said that they actually saw the drone in flight on August 8th. They then were able to track it to Rivera which was around 2,000 yards away from the Mexican border. The police say that the agents found Rivera with the meth in an actual lunch box and a two foot drone hidden in a bush. Talk about a pretty sneaky operation. But, no matter how sneaky you think you are they usually always find ya.

In a recent report from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration said that drones aren’t usually used to smuggle drugs from Mexico due to the fact that they can only carry small loads of items. However, once the word gets out this way of transportation might become more and more common.

The trend started in 2015 when two people in California pleaded guilty for dropping twenty-eight pounds of heroin from a drone.

Drone’s are pretty noisey so police think that the drug smugglers will hopefully stay away from this means off  transportation as way to smuggle things. Plus the batter life of a drone isn’t that long, which could be pretty problematic when trying to hide from the police. The small loads also means small payloads, the risk isn’t worth the reward.

Child Suffered From Severe Child Abuse in San Diego

Child abuse in any form is unforgivable. To think of someone harming a child is so mind boggling, but it happens. Daily.

Sadly, a poor child had to suffer from severe injuries day before succumbing to those injuries which included: extensive brain bleed, broken arm, and a burn to the bottom of her foot. How the heck does a toddler get this injured?

The eighteen month old little girl was named, Leah Brown-Meza. She died from the blunt force of the trauma, according to the Medical Examiner’s reports.

According to the police, the mother, Lillie Brown had reported that she woke up to find her young toddler unresponsive and then called for help.

Lillie Brown is a twenty-one year old woman and a member of the Viejas tribe. She’s now going to face her young life behind bars, with three counts of willful cruelty to a child with great bodily injury and/or death.

Lillie’s boyfriend, twenty-six year old, Kevin Foster, will also face similar charges. He will face charges of murder, assault on a child with force likely to produce great bodily harm or death. He however was ordered to be held on a $2 million bail. Guess he won’t be sneaking off anytime soon.

According to the reports, the little girl had sadly suffered from at least three different injuries. How can someone hurt that innocent child? Poor baby girl.

The autopsy showed that there were several face and scalp bruises, abrasions and extensive and acute brain bleeding in several different parts of her little brain. Pretty much a hopeless waiting game at this point for the innocent little girl.

The report also showed that she suffered from “retinal and optic nerve hemorrhages” as well as other major damage to her central nervous system. As if that wasn’t enough for the little thing, she had blunt force trauma injuries to her back and chest. She even had second degree burns on the bottom of her foot, and a broken upper arm.

Narcotics Found Near the Border

Drug Bust At the Border

According to the reports over 1,800 pounds of drugs were found at the Southern California Border this weekend. The drugs were worth around $3.2 million.

CBP officers found 383 pounds of Meth, 51 pounds of Cocaine, 54 pounds of heroin, and 1,340 pounds of marijuana.

According to the CBP officers who found the narcotics, the drugs were found in several locations in different vehicles. They were found in the floors of the vehicles as well as the spare tire well, bumpers, tractor-trailer, seats, and quarter panels. Pretty much anywhere you could hide anything.

Peter Flores Statement:

CBP officers face many challenges on a daily basis.  The interceptions this weekend showcase CBP’s adaptability to an ever-changing smuggling trade.

The first incident happened when an empty tractor and trailer entered the Calexico East Port of Entry.

The officer brought a canine to search the vehicle where the dog alerted them to the wall. That’s when the officers found 54 large wrapped packages of marijuana stacked inside of non factory compartment wall of the empty trailer. Probably not the smartest idea the smuggler ever had.

Phoenix Business Involved in Marijuana Bust

Phoenix is always booming. Recently deputies were busy in Maricopa when the Sheriff’s Office took part it a drug bust on a South Phoenix Business.

MCSO spokesman, Chris Hegstrom tweeted about the incident which apparently happened in the area of 40th Street and Southern Avenue at around 8:15.

The investigators reportedly raided around nine unites of the industrial building. The reports say that there were three arrests and there were hundred of marijuana plants seized.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio said that the people who were apparently growing the pot were running a legal medical marijuana business.

Sheriff Arpaio’s Statement:

This is not just a marijuana problem. It can’t avoid danger to the citizens.

Dispensary Causes Suspicion

Chandler’s First Medical Marijuana Dispensary

The United States is always progressing and one of the biggest conflicts is the marijuana debate. Local news was allowed to go visit the dispensary for an exclusive look inside of Chandler’s first dispensary.

According to news reports, this new facility is in place of the old Last Chance Saloon on the Arizona Avenue and Hunt Highway.

On Friday The Herbal Wellness Center will officially open. Patients were anxiously awaiting in line for the soft opening the Wednesday before the Friday opening.

In 2013 the company started their first venture into the Marijuana business. Their first location was in Phoenix.

Chandler Dispensary Opens

The officials in Chandler had tried to fight the dispensary’s opening at first, however they worked hard to come to an agreement to work out all the problems they came up with at first.

Joshua Huntington’s Statement who is the Assistant Manager at Herbal Wellness Center:

We are one of the first state of the art dispensaries in this area especially in Chandler all-around about 25 surrounding miles people are coming from all over.

The manager say that you can look at the items that they have available but you can’t buy them until the opening due to legal requirements. Who ever has an actual medical marijuana card can go ahead and get any kind of bud or pot potion that they would like.

Managers of the dispensaries say that the South Chandler location just makes sense.

According to studies, there are about 4,000 medical marijuana card holders in Chandler. That seems like a high number but that number just continues to grow statewide.

Chandler Medical Marijuana Dispensary Opens

Chandler has opened it’s very first medical marijuana dispensary. It’s debut had quite the…welcoming committee.

According to the reports, The Herbal Wellness Center was giving away free pot. They claim up to 1/8 of an ounce of marijuana. They gave a little extra as a thank you gift to every patient that made a purchase. They claimed it was part of the company’s Grand Opening celebration. Of course, the promotion worked very well. Claims have said that there has been a steady stream of medical marijuana card holders that went into the clinic.

Wellness Center Gives Away Free Pot

The owner of The Herbal Wellness Center, Rami Sweis said that he definitley saw the need to having a center in the area of the Southeast Valley. His facility is located near Arizona Avenue near Hunt Highway.

Sweis is expecting a great success, which so far it’s proven to be one. As time goes on he expects even more people to register for the medical marijuana card. He hopes his Center is convenient for the residents.

Arizona is one of the twenty-three states in the United States that actually have medical marijuana programs. It’s a bit of an “unorthodox” business, but it’s helps a lot of people. While, the businesses do provide help, marijuana is still prohibited under Federal law. Which makes it a hard honest business to get into.

It’s a Schedule I substance and distributing is of course a federal offense, even though their President has urged the federal prosecutors to not prosecute anyone who is selling medical marijuana in a state that allows it.

Business

Which it makes the business start up even harder. Because a lot of banks actually refuse to work with the dispensaries because they fear a federal crackdown, which they should. The dispensaries do not accept credit cards for this reason so they can only do the transactions in cash only. Which makes it hard on some of their customers. A lot of people do not carry cash on them any more. It’s so much easier to keep a debit or credit card on hand.

The Herbal Wellness Center has a great set up and tries to be as secure as possible. They have security guards at the door for extra protection. There’s also a number of security cameras which covers almost every corner of the facility.

They have great hopes for the facilities at Chandler and the other one which is located at 40th Avenue and Indian School which is in Phoenix.

The center hopes to employee around two hundred people before the end of the year.  This place is helping people and creating jobs, what else could you want from a brand new business?

Officer Involved Shooting

Phoenix Officer Involved in Shooting

Phoenix police have identified a 44-year-old man killed in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday as Jose Aaron Gonzalez.

According to police, at 6:30 a.m. officers were called to a home near 31st Avenue and Roosevelt Street to serve a search warrant for the Arizona Department of Transportation regarding an investigation into identity theft and forgery.

Officers reportedly made contact with a woman and three children inside the home, who exited the residence without incident.

Police say they then saw Gonzalez flee down the hallway where he hid in a back room, where he stayed inside a closet armed with a handgun.

As officers were still outside the home, Gonzalez reportedly left his hiding location and confronted officers, pointing a gun at them from the hallway.

Police say three officers then shot Gonzalez, ending the threat. He was pronounced dead at the scene

No additional suspects were located.

Police say they will be conducting standard criminal and internal inquiries into the shooting and ADOT will be continuing their investigation as well.

Suspect Killed In Officer Involved Shooting

A man died following a shooting involving two police officers in west Phoenix.

Police were called to the area of 59th Avenue and Thomas Road around 1:15 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident between 27-year-old David Gardea and a woman.

Police say Gardea pointed a gun at officers after they arrived and exited their vehicle.

One of the officers, fired his weapon at Gardea as he fled up a driveway on Mulberry Drive. Police say he turned and fired his weapon at the officers, forcing them to fire back. Gardea was shot and died at the scene.

No officers were injured during the incident, authorities said. Detectives recovered a semi-automatic handgun at the scene.

The officers have since been identified as 38-year-old Nicholas Chacon and 24-year-old Anthony Deida. Chacon has 17 years of service under his belt, while Deida has 10 years.

The shooting comes just two days after officers were involved in a shooting with an alleged carjacking suspect in the area of 33rd Avenue and Washington Street.

Police Investigate Shooting

A dangerous scene unfolded in a Glendale neighborhood after shots were fired and a police officer was injured.

This happened on Friday morning near 43rd Avenue and Olive.

Sgt. Tiffany Smith with Glendale Police says a multi-agency task force was attempting to arrest a violent suspect with multiple felony warrants. As they encountered that suspect, the individual fired shots and a Glendale police sergeant was struck.

The male suspect then fled the area on foot into the neighborhood. Police established a perimeter and sent tactical officers from different agencies.

The Glendale Police sergeant who was shot was part of a taskforce that had been watching and tracking the 44-year-old suspect, who officers tried to arrest at a parking lot. He is described as a senior sergeant with 20 years of service with Glendale Police.

Sgt. Smith’s Statement:

At that time, the suspect fled on foot, and the officers pursued on foot. That’s when the suspect engaged the officers and shot the sergeant.

The suspect ran into a neighborhood. Residents in the neighborhood were told to stay indoors, while officers from several agencies combed through yards, peered over backyard fences, as they looked for the suspect.

After nearly an hour, Phoenix SWAT team members cornered the suspect at a home’s side yard. Phoenix Police said the suspect fired at officers first, and SWAT team members returned fire.

Analyse Sanchez Statement:

And then we heard shootings, and it went on for a little bit. It was like boom boom boom. It was very loud.

The suspect was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have identified a man who was shot and killed Wednesday by an officer with the Surprise Police Department as 61-year-old George M. Pappas.

Pappas was said to be holding a knife at a business on Bell and El Mirage roads when he was shot and killed.

Officer Shooting

Officers were initially called to the business to perform a welfare check, according to a Surprise police spokesman, but he did not offer additional details about the events that led to the shooting.

Pappas was the second person shot by a police officer in the Valley on Wednesday. Phoenix police shot and injured a man suspected of arson earlier that day.

Diana Greene, owner of Molly and Friend’s pet grooming, said that she had just moved her business into the complex. She described hearing a loud bang before noon.

Diana Greene’s Statement:

We had seen two police officers run up to the open office back there, it’s a rental office, and (we) heard a gunshot.

Greene’s Statement:

Immediately the police came walking back down and then they went back up with two stretchers and came back down with two empty stretchers, and then the coroner’s van pulled in.

Pappas died at the scene.

Law-enforcement officers have shot 21 people, killing 12 of them, so far in 2018.

Phoenix Drug Smuggling

Phoenix Suspect Arrested for Drug Involvement

According to the police a suspect responsible for selling around $500,00 in drugs a month in Phoenix has been arrested as well as another man. That’s a pretty good haul in drug activity if you ask me.

The court records show that on July 28th the police raided a home near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road. They found $300,000 in cash as well as 1.5 kilograms of cocaine and almost a pound of meth. Talk about a big bust for the local police.

The police were able to arrest the two men who were apart of a five month long investigation that was titled, “CWT-466”. The first man was twenty-five year old, Victor Perez-Berrera. By the police, he is considered to be a “high ranking member of a drug organization” Which sounds pretty serious.

According to the police, the organization is responsible for selling around $6 million a year in cocaine and methamphetamine in the Phoenix metro are. Sounds like they stay pretty dang busy.

Robbery in Phoenix

A local judge gave Berrera a $100,00 cash bond on charges of conspiracy as well as money laundering and dangerous drugs for sale. The second man was arrested by the police was a forty year old man named Oscar Bailon-Aguirre.

Aguirre is in even more trouble since he’s in the United States without proper documentation. However, he told the police that if he was given the opportunity that he would never sell drugs again. Which I guess that’s good in the long run?

Aguirre was given a cash bond of $50,00 on charges of conspiracy as well as laundering and dangerous drugs for sale.

Drug Smuggling in Arizona

Ironically enough, a sixty-three year old woman with a criminal history in Arizona has been arrested for allegedly carrying cocaine and heroin in her luggage on a flight from Las Vegas to Detroit.

The Drug Enforcement Administration said that Cheryl Cheatham  was arrested at the Detroit Airport on October 14th.

The DEA agents said that they noticed her acting suspiciously near the baggage carousel. She was reportedly looking at the luggage tags “as if she did not own the luggage, for a very long period of time”.  Talk about a fishy situation, but let’s be real older people do weirder things sometimes.

The agents then followed her and watched her as she grabbed her two suitcase then as she hailed a taxi. The taxi then drove her to a hotel. However, the DEA reported that she did NOT check into the hotel which is pretty weird. Why go to a hotel if you’re not staying there? Unless you’re doing something you shouldn’t be.

The officials say that around two hours later, Cheatham then got into a waiting car along with her two suitcases.

The Michigan State Troopers were asked to do a traffic stop. They did and when they did, they had a K-9 do search the car. The K-9 dog alerted the police to the presence of drugs. Sneaky little old lady.

Narcotics Found

The search revealed two big packages. There was one bag in each suitcase. The bags were bundled in clear plastic.

According to the DEA, one of the bundles had eight individually wrapped kilograms of cocaine. The other contained 9 individually wrapped kilograms of cocaine.

Cheatham of course was then placed under arrest on a charge of possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

The DEA report also shows that Cheatham had a previous conviction of transporting/selling a controlled substance on July 18,1986 and an arrest by United States Customs for Importing a Controlled Substance on September 29, 1972. Talk about a colorful past.

She apparently had a criminal history in Arizona as well. She was charged with shoplifting and theft there.
