Shooting Near Phoenix Freeway

Phoenix Freeway Shooting

Phoenix has an abundance of shootings in the area. Sadly a woman has lost her life due to another shooting. This lady was shot in the head while driving on a Phoenix Freeway. According to reports this happened on a Wednesday night.

The Sgt. of the Phoenix Police Department, Jonathan Howard told the station that there was three men in a white, work style pickup truck. The truck was carrying ladder racks and were chasing the woman as she was heading to Interstate 10 to State Road 51.

According to the reports, the lady was shot while she was on the phone with emergency responders. She then crashed her vehicle along the center divider.

Shooting Victim

Sgt. Howard said that the woman was taken to the hospital and was in “extremely critical condition” she sadly later passed away due to the severity of her injuries. How sad, to be running from people for your life, be on the phone with emergency responders then to be shot while on the phone with the ones who are there to protect.

The police are still searching for the white truck. At this time it hasn’t been found. Apparently there were two to three crashes involving at least four vehicles. All of which are related to the shooting.

Two of the people who were in the crashes had to be taken to the local hospital.

Violent Crimes in Phoenix

Drive by Shooting

Sadly drive by shootings rarely go well for the person being shot at. According to the Phoenix police, a victim of a recent drive by shooting has passed away.

The victim was later identified as twenty-five year old, Kyle Begley. The reports said that the young man was shot around 2:30 p.m. and it was near Oraibi Drive. Oraibi is a quiet little neighborhood near the 7th Avenue and the Loop 101.

According to the police, Begley had to be taken to the local hospital due to his “extremely critical” condition. Sadly he later was pronounced dead at the local hospital.

Police said Begley was seen having a conversation with another man in the driveway of his home. The suspect got into his vehicle, then fired a shot at Begley and drove away from the area.

Neighbor, Dawn Woolworth’s Statement:

All of a sudden, I heard a loud pop and I’m like, what is that?  I’ve lived in this place for 31 years and nothing ever happens here.

A number of police units responded to the scene, along with the Arizona Humane Society. Officers on the scene said they asked for assistance from animal control because they were having trouble with one or more dogs at the victim’s residence.

Police have been asking neighbors for surveillance video.

Police said the suspect was in an older model sedan. The vehicle was silver and possibly a Honda.

The investigation is ongoing.

Children Abused in Apartment

Sometimes apartment’s get a bad rap. Most people think that apartments are gross and filthy and in some cases, like this one they’re right. Sadly two children under three years old were found living in an apartment which had mold, feces, rotting food and bugs in it. This was in Glendale.

The Glendale police reported that on September 29th they arrived on a call to an apartment near 55th Avenue and Camelback Road. The manager of the apartment’s saw a seventeen month old little girl in a playpen which was covered in flies. How heartbreaking for that poor baby that has no defense for it’s self.

The police say that the home was horrible. It smelled like “decomposing body” inside. They also found the little girl and her two and a half year old brother.

The officers found black mold in the apartment as well as nasty standing water on the floor. How gross is that? Officers also saw rotting food, bugs, and both of the children were covered in dirt.

According to the police, the little boy had feces on both sides of his little face. He also had his name written on his forearm with a marker. Poor little guy.

Luckily, the Arizona Department of Child Safety removed the children from the home. They took them to the local hospital to be evaluated.

The father, twenty-five year old, George Philip Riefler told the police that his apartment had been that way for around three months. He told the police that he had been depressed and felt overwhelmed lately. Well yea, of course is your house is nasty like that you’re going to be depressed and definitely over whelmed.

The young father was arrested on two counts of child abuse.

Investigating Homicide Cases

Police Still Searching for Homicide Suspects

Even though it’s been more than a year since a security guard has lost his life due to being shot and killed, police are still trying to find justice for the fallen security guard’s death. The security guard had been killed outside of an West Phoenix apartment complex. Police are still needing helping identifying two suspects.

The Phoenix Police officers found fifty-nine year old, Jeffery Bellemare, suffering from gunshot wounds. This was on November 29, 2013 at the Graybriar Condominiums. This is near the 53rd Avenue and Indian School Road. Sadly, Bellemare died at the scene.

Police Searching for Two Suspects in Security Guard’s Shooting

According to the police, there was a man and a woman that could be seen running from the area. They fled into an older model sedan vehicle. Police have released sketches of what the two suspects might look like. They hope that someone in the public would be willing to come forth if they know these people, or someone might have seen them around, just anything to go on really.

Police say that the vehicle had a vinyl top and could have been damaged in the front-end due to a front end incident that was prior to the shooting. The Phoenix Police said that the detectives have been working on this case for quite some time. It must be awful hard on these officers, not having much to go on.

If anyone has any information about the shooting or could possibly identify the two suspects, please do so. You can contact the Silent Witness program at 480-WITNESS or even the Phoenix Police Department.  If that was a friend of yours or a loved one, you would want justice. The fallen security guard’s family definitely deserves some justice and peace of mind over this. So, please help if you can.

Wrong Way Crash Ends Up in Homicide Case

Authorities say a Utah man has been arrested in connection with a wrong-way crash in western Arizona that killed three California women in another vehicle.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say 49-year-old Dana Michael Cavanaugh of Washington, Utah, has been booked into jail on suspicion of homicide.

They’re still trying to determine if Cavanaugh was driving impaired at the time of Saturday’s crash on Interstate 10 east of Quartzsite.

It was unclear Monday if Cavanaugh has an attorney yet.

DPS officials say a vehicle entered the interstate going the wrong way and traveled about 500 feet before colliding head-on with another car.

A 55-year-old woman and two 31-year-old women were killed.

They are identified as: Caitlin M. Cascella, 31; Christine A. Bradbury, 31; and Susan C. Bradbury, 55 all from Riverside, Calif.

Mother Faces Homicide Charges

The mother of two children found dead inside a car in Superior has been arrested on homicide charges, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office says.

PCSO says a 2-year-old boy and 10-month-old girl were found strapped to car seats inside a car Monday night near U.S. 60 and Mary Drive.

Both of the children are dead.

The children’s mother, 20-year-old Brittany Velasquez, faces two counts of murder, according to the sheriff’s office.

PCSO’s Statement:

Evidence on scene indicated foul play.

Officials from the Superior Police Department said officers had been out to Velasquez’s home seven or eight times throughout the past few years, including a January incident that was reported to the Department of Child Safety.

DCS confirmed that it had two prior reports of neglect involving Velasquez and her children: In January and in October 2016. Neither instance resulted in action from DCS, which concluded there was no evidence of abuse or neglect despite having concerns about Velasquez’s mental health.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating.

Prison Homicide

A Tucson-area man serving a 22-year sentence for a double murder has died in state prison in what authorities say is a suspected homicide.

Charlie M. Wooden, 34, was found unresponsive in his assigned bunk Monday night at a medium security state prison complex in Buckeye, authorities said. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Arizona Department of Corrections investigators “suspect foul play was involved and have identified potential suspects,” the department said in a news release Tuesday.

Arizona Department Statement:

While the investigation is ongoing, the department intends to fully pursue criminal prosecution in this case.

Wooden was sentenced to prison in 2017 for two counts of second-degree murder in the 2013 deaths of Vanessa Buster, 22, and Pluma-Blanca Jose manual Navarro Cazares, 23.

The victims were residents of Three Points west of Tucson. Wooden also was known to have lived in the Three Points area, and well as in the Drexel Heights area, according to Star archives.

Homicide Suspect

Two Flagstaff men were arrested Thursday after a woman was shot and killed Wednesday night in east Flagstaff, Flagstaff Police Department officials said.

Kinsey Beebe, 19, was found shot and in critical condition Wednesday night when officers responded to a call about shots fired near the 1900 block of east Arrowhead Avenue at approximately 11:30 p.m., Flagstaff Police spokesman Sgt. Cory Runge said in a press release.

Beebe was transported to Flagstaff Medical Center, where she died of her injuries.

Approximately half an hour after Beebe was found shot, police receive another call of shots fired in the area of North Sanford Place and North Miranda Way, Runge said. Police determined it had been a drive-by shooting at an occupied residential structure, but no one was injured.

First Degree Murder

At 2 a.m. Thursday, Adonis Encinas Velarde, 20, turned himself in and was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, kidnapping, disorderly conduct with a weapon, discharging a weapon in city limits, drive-by shooting of an occupied structure, and assisting a criminal street gang, Runge said.

Velarde told police he witnessed the murder of Beebe and was the person who fired the gun in the drive-by shooting, Runge said.

At approximately 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Abraham Puentes Ortiz, 22, was found and arrested at the 700 block of South Blackbird Roost. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, kidnapping, disorderly conduct with a weapon, discharging a weapon in city limits, drive-by shooting of an occupied structure, and assisting a criminal street gang, Runge said.

Ortiz told police he shot Beebe three times and drove the vehicle in the drive-by shooting, Runge said.

Police Investigate Homicide

The men allegedly told police they had been drinking with Beebe at the 1900 block of east Arrowhead Avenue. During their time there, the men went outside and fired one shot from an altered Ruger handgun with the serial number removed, Runge said.

Beebe confronted the men about the shooting because there were other people inside the house. The men then placed the gun inside the home and went for a walk. When they returned, they found out Beebe had hidden the gun. The three got in an argument and Beebe made a phone call, Runge said.

Ortiz, who was armed with a Glock handgun, shot Beebe in the head and neck three times, Runge said.

The men fled the scene in a minivan, which had an AR-15 rifle inside, Runge said. Velarde fired a gun at an occupied structure during the drive away from where Beebe was murdered.

Velarde then fled from Ortiz because he believed Ortiz would kill him next, Runge said. Velarde then surrendered himself to police.

When police located Ortiz, he was armed with a Glock handgun and police located an AR-15 in his residence.

Police believe they have arrested all suspects in the case and there is no ongoing threat to the public, Runge said.

Local Robbery Cases in Phoenix

Local Armed Robbery in Phoenix

Police are investigating an armed robbery involving two suspects at a coin business near Tatum and Greenway on Friday.  Officials say the business owner shot one suspect, then held both suspects at gunpoint until officers arrived at the scene.

Authorities say the male suspect was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while a female suspect was detained at the scene.

According to Phoenix police, all suspects involved are in custody with no outstanding suspects.

This is an active investigation. No names have been released in this case.

FBI Search for Phoenix Robbery Suspects

The FBI is trying to find two unrelated bank robbery suspects who have both struck multiple banks in the Phoenix area.

The first robbery, on Jan. 31, was committed by a man who walked into a Chase Bank on Indian School Road near 107th Avenue in Avondale, officials said. The man handed the teller a note demanding money, then made off with an unknown amount of money, the FBI said.

Later that day, the same suspect entered a Chase Bank branch near 59th Avenue and Thomas Road in Phoenix and passed along a similar note. Again, he made off with an unspecified amount of cash, according to the FBI.

The FBI released surveillance camera photos showing the man wearing a black baseball cap, sport sunglasses with dark lenses, and a light colored sweatshirt with red, white and dark colored stripes along the chest and arms.

Female Robbery Suspect

FBI agents are also looking for a woman who robbed two banks in Phoenix on Feb. 10.

The suspect entered the Academy Bank at 15th Avenue and Bethany Home Road in Phoenix and showed the teller a handgun while passing a note demanding money, FBI officials said. The female suspect left with an unknown amount of money.

She then went to the Alaska Federal Credit Union, near 44th Street and Indian School Road in Phoenix, according to the FBI. The lady then handed a note demanding money to a teller and again brandished a firearm before making off with an unknown amount of money.

The FBI released surveillance photos of the woman. She was seen wearing a white, long-sleeved shirt and dark blue jeans, along with a black purse. She carried a black handgun at both robberies.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of either of the suspects is asked to contact the FBI’s Phoenix Field Office at (623) 466-1999, submit tips online at tips.fbi.gov, or contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (480-948-6377).

Teens Shot During Robbery Incident

Police say two teenagers are in critical condition after a man shot them following a reported robbery in north Phoenix.

Phoenix police say two 15-year-old boys walked into a business and stole some items Saturday night.

As they walked away from the business, police say an unidentified man confronted the teens in the parking lot about the stolen items and the boys began to attack him.

The man then shot the two boys.

Police haven’t released the shooter’s name, but say he isn’t an employee at the business.

They say the unidentified boys suffered injuries that aren’t life-threatening.

Suspects Arrested In bank Robbery Case

Two suspects are in police custody following a bank robbery in north Phoenix Tuesday morning.

According to Phoenix police, at 11:30 a.m. officers responded to a report of a bank robbery in the area of Tatum Boulevard and Greenway Road.

Officers in the area located the suspect’s vehicle fleeing southbound from the scene.

An air unit followed the suspect’s vehicle near 7th Street and Thunderbird Road where the driver was taken into custody, according to police.

Police said the passenger fled on foot but was located and detained without incident.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

The FBI’s Bank Robbery Task Force is investigating, police said.

Police Arrest Four People Connected in Robbery Case

Phoenix police detained four people on Tuesday after a drawn-out and dangerous cross-Valley chase where one suspect fled into a neighborhood and another car-jacked a woman and sped into Phoenix, narrowly avoiding pedestrians at the onset of rush-hour.

Officers had been searching for the Audi sedan involved in the Tuesday chase “for several weeks” after it had been taken in an armed robbery and then used for a separate commercial burglary, Phoenix police said.

Police spotted the car Tuesday afternoon near 2400 E. Indian School Road, at which point the driver and three occupants traveled into the West Valley before returning east toward Phoenix more than an hour later.

News station video feeds showed the sedan navigating surface streets near Litchfield Road and Van Buren Street about 2:45 p.m.

At times, the vehicle made U-turns, cut through parking lots and sped through traffic in the middle lane. About 2:50 p.m., a person in the vehicle jumped out and fled into a residential area in Avondale.

That person was possibly armed with a long gun and remained at large until about 5:30 p.m., when police confirmed he had been located and arrested without further incident.

The driver, though, continued driving on residential and busy city streets with the other two occupants, weaving in and out of traffic.

According to reports, the driver finally stopped his vehicle and approached a woman who was in a white truck. He then forced her out of the vehicle and then fled the scene.

Suspects Flee

Police said that there were two other people from the abandoned Audi. They were detained at the scene.

The man who took the truck smashed through the intersection, drove on the median, and picked up speed onto a Valley freeway, heading east on Interstate 10 toward Phoenix.

The driver exited onto 35th Avenue and sped through residential areas as pedestrians walked on sidewalks and crossed streets before turning around and heading north.

He turned east on McDowell Road by the Arizona State Fairgrounds and continued through central Phoenix. At 3:30 p.m., roughly an hour after the chase began, the vehicle was near the light-rail station at 19th Avenue and Camelback Road as rush-hour traffic intensified.

Pedestrian Endangered

At several points, the truck came close to pedestrians and the driver could be seen stopping at a crosswalk with several people passing in front.

The driver repeatedly stopped the truck, sped backwards on residential streets, and, at about 3:40 p.m., parked near the Monte Vista apartments in the area of Peoria and 19th avenues. He then ran into a residence.

Authorities swarmed the entryway and arrested the suspect at about 3:40 p.m.

Police did not immediately provide the names of the suspects, saying additional information would be expected Wednesday morning. Investigators also said the suspects were believed to have been the same suspects from the initial robbery.

No officers, pedestrians or motorists reported any injuries from the incident.
