Babysitter Arrested for Suspicion of Child Abuse

Babysitter Arrested for Three Counts of Child Abuse

When you ask someone to babysit your children you would expect them to be well taken care of. However, now days it’s pretty hard to tell who is really going to be watching your children and what will happen while they are under someone else’s care. A thirty-nine year old babysitter has been arrested by the Tempe police on the suspicion of three counts of child abuse. There is an ongoing investigation following the death of a fourteen month old little boy. The baby had a broken arm as well as some other injuries, according to the police authorities.

The suspect in this child abuse case is Robert Reynolds. Robert happens to be the boyfriend of the baby’s mother, According to Lt. Mike Pooley from the Tempe Police. The mother left her fourteen month old son, Juantio Valenzuela with Robert on Sunday morning as she left for work that day. Lt. Pooley would not release the mother’s name at this time however he did say that she was a maid at a local motel.

Lt. Pooley’s Statment about the Child Abuse Case

The baby had obvious signs of trauma to his head and body to include a fractured arm.

According to the Tempe police, they had responded to a 911 call at around 5 o’clock in the evening. The call was for a baby that had not been breathing and was located in a mobile home in the 1600 block of East Apache Boulevard. They quickly took the baby to the hospital, however the baby was pronounced dead.

Lt. Pooley stated that Robert was caring for two other young children of his own at the time. Robert is said to have been living with the children in the mobile home. There is no reason to believe that Robert’s own children were abused at this time.  Robert at first told the baby’s mother that he had fell and hit his head earlier that morning… when the baby was found unresponsive that afternoon, he then called his aunt for her help, however according to the police Robert did not want to call the police or fire departments for help.

The actual cause of the young child’s death is still unknown at this time. It’s being investigated while they are waiting for the report from the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office. Robert is wanted for a minor traffic warrant for driving on a suspended license.
