Felon Sentenced For Shooting Phoenix Police Officer

Man Shoots Phoenix Officer and Sentenced for 62 Years

A convicted felon has now been sentenced to sixty-two years in prison for the 2013 shooting that had wounded a Phoenix Police Officer. These police officers put their life on the line to keep our lives safe, so I’m glad this officer will get some peace knowing that his shooter is facing the consequences. Not often enough, do the victims get to see justice from the suspects. This was a win for all wounded police officers.

The Maricopa County prosecutors say that the shooter, Brandon McCabe was sentenced on Thursday to an “aggravated term”.  He had been convicted back in August for attempted first-degree murder as well as: aggravated assault, criminal trespassing, misconduct involving weapons, and resisting arrest.  Quite a colorful past for our shooter.

McCabe Has Criminal Past

On January 6, 2013 Brandon McCabe was accused of shooting Police Officer, Peter “Chris” Bennett on that January night.  Luckily thirty-six year old Officer Bennett survived his gunshot wounds. He suffered injuries to his face, right hip, and right arm. Apparently Officer Bennett survived the wounds. He approached the shooter, McCabe in an area which has a pretty high burglary rate.

Brandon had ignored the Officer’s command and then the two then exchanged gunfire. McCabe was then arrested after he was found hiding in a nearby shed, like a little coward. He also had some gunshot wounds to both of his hands. Sounds like it would have been a crazy gun shoot out.

Hopefully less officers are injured keeping our streets safe. They work hard all year round with many hours, they definitely do not get paid enough. Let’s hope Officer Bennett’s recovery goes well and he’s back to being himself.  We need more police and more citizens like Officer Bennett and less people like McCabe in this crazy world.

Man Attacks College Girl On Her Way to Dorm

Investigation Into Man Attacking College Girl

The police are investigating a attack of a Grand Canyon University student that was attacked on Tuesday night.  Jonathan Howard, who is a Sgt. at the Phoenix Police stated that the attack happened around eight o’clock in the evening. It happened right across the street from the campus which is near 35th Avenue and Camelback Road.

Sgt. Howard said that the college student was walking to her dorm when a man suddenly attacked her with a knife. The young woman was able to use her pepper spray and a whistle to escape. Which is awesome. More women need to quit thinking it’s stupid to carry such things, it could save your life!

Grand Canyon University spokesman, Bob Romantic told the NEWS that the young lady was able to walk to a security office and report the attack.

College Student’s Quick Thinking Save Her Life

The police say that the young woman had suffered minor injuries to her stomach, but she is expected to be okay. Sgt. Howard said that the suspect however, was able to get away. Police are looking for a Hispanic male who is in his twenties. He’s around five foot, nine inches tall. Last seen wearing a dark t-shirt and jeans.

According to Romanitc’s response, the school has removed a fence that had been set up on the edge of campus. They also installed more lights. Hopefully people won’t be lurking around campus anymore.

The school issued the following statement Wednesday night:

The safety of our students is of utmost importance to the university. We are thankful the student is OK and are working with the Phoenix Police Department to investigate the incident further.

Phoenix Police have also stepped up the patrols in that area to help out on the potential threats.

Man With Violent History Shoots Phoenix Police Detective

Phoenix Police Detective Killed by Man with Violent Past

William Thornton has a pretty violent history. His violent way of life took a toll of a Phoenix Police Detective. The man shot and killed the Phoenix Detective and even injured another person.

According to the ABC15 Investigators, they did some searching through the court documents and found that William Thornton is facing multiple convictions.

William Thornton has more trouble with Phoenix Police

When William Thornton was only fifteen years old, he had his first run in with the authorities. This was in the year 2000. William was arrested and convicted of attempted aggravated assault.

Just one short year after his assault charge he was in some more trouble, this time for a marijuana possession charge. Later, in 2003 he was in bigger trouble. William was given six and a half years in prison for an armed robbery and theft.

After all of this trouble, William still hadn’t learned his lesson. In 2009 he was heading back to prison for stealing his own step-father’s truck. Which he then ran from the police when they tried to stop him.

Once again he faced more trouble, in 2012 he was also convicted and sentenced to more prison time. This time for another drug possession and resisting arrest.

Now he is the main suspect in an attempted murder which happened on February 25, 2014. In this incident a man was shot in the back. This was in the neighborhood that is close to 40th Avenue and Camelback.

Teenagers Fight at Arizona State Fair

Group of Teenagers Fight at Phoenix Fair

The state fair is a very memorable time for a lot of children and teens. First kisses on the Ferris Wheel, winning a Gold fish, the great carnival food. The fair is also a place for robbery and mischief. According to the local authorities, dozens of teenagers had gotten into a huge fight on the opening night of the Arizona State Fair. The fair happens in Phoenix.

The Phoenix Police and the Arizona Department of Public Safety were at the scene at the fair. It was at 19th Avenue and McDowell. This huge fight happened last Friday night.

Police Arrest 30 Teenagers at State Fair

The police officers said that they had to detain at least thirty teenagers at the fairgrounds. They were all released into the care of their parents. Police say that there must have been as many as sixty teenagers involved, as well as some of them fighting with the police.

Teenagers weren’t the only ones in trouble for fighting at the fair. It’s sad to say that two adults were also arrested, one of which was a woman, for kicking and hitting a police officer. Police still aren’t real sure of what caused the fight. The fair will end on November second. Hopefully there isn’t anymore brawls at the fair. It’s sad that fairs are meant to be a fun and family friendly place that people ruin it.

Make sure to keep a good watch on your young children at these fairs. They could be the ones in the fights, abducted, raped, robbed. There’s a million wrong doing’s at these family events. Just because it’s a supposed safe place doesn’t mean there aren’t people trying to do bad things during the fair.

Police Officials Release Woman Wanted for Question in DPS Shooting

Police Officials have stated that they have found and then released a woman who was wanted for questioning that involved the shooting of an Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer in the Phoenix area.  However, there were no arrests made. Police are still searching for the suspects, Ramon Bueno and Danny Vargas.

The officer is doing very well and the forty – four year old is expected to fully recover according to Officer Holmes. There are several agencies working together in this investigation, including: DPS, ATF (Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms), and the U. S. Marshals Office.

The investigation has been going on for the five suspects after a routine traffic stop on Wednesday morning at a local Knights Inn motel which was near the interstate. The traffic stop ended with gunfire. According to Officer Holmes, the suspects that were in the vehicle fired at the officer that made the initial traffic stop which was around three o’clock in the morning. They were driving a 2008 Mercury Sable that had dark tinted windows.

The officer then approached the vehicle and talked briefly with the passengers. After his chat with the passengers he walked to the back to the patrol car and waited for backup. When backup arrived, they then tried to approach the suspects vehicle. That is when Mr. Ramon allegedly fired a weapon at the officers.

DPS Officer Shot

The DPS Officer was shot in the face and then the suspects quickly fled the scene. The two officers that came as backup quickly returned the fire at the vehicle and then began to try to help the injured DPS Officer. According to Officer Holmes, the suspects drove around the hotel and then approached the officers once again and started the shooting again. Officer Holmes called it a “desperate act” to shoot at the on-scene officers.

The Mercury Sable was found abandoned at a home near 29th Avenue and Pima. The vehicle wasn’t reported stolen. No other information was given about the vehicle or home where it was found.

Holmes Statement:

I had no idea what was going on, when I got there they told me that the car was involved in the shooting and it was a shock to me.
