Domestic Child Abuse Cases

10 Year Old Boy Dies from Abuse

Child abuse is sadly becoming more and more common. It seems like every day there’s more and more child abuse cases on the news.

Now a ten year old boy has suffered from second and third degree burns thanks to his mother and her boyfriend. The little boy sadly died from his injuries.

Ten year old, Christian Pearson died at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. According to the Chino Valley Police Department, on Monday morning, thirty-four year old, Julianna Moreno and thirty-six year old, Daniel Terry are going to face charges of first degree murder.

Moreno and Terry were both arrested on Thursday for suspicion of attempted murder as well as child abuse and aggravated assault. This was after Christian was found with his burns on his back, extremities, torso, neck, head, along with extensive bruising. That poor little boy.

Police said that the evidence suggested that he was tied up and couldn’t flee when he got the injuries. Police were called about a child who wasn’t breathing.

Police said that Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority arrived tot he scene and performed the emergency treatment. The little boy was then flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital where he sadly died later.

Police did report that Christian’s young life wasn’t wasted, his organs were donated. Christian’s paternal grandmother lives in Tucson said that the family had no fair warning about his death, there were no previous signs of abuse.

Phoenix Couple Arrested

Both Wendy and Kansas will now have a long road ahead of them. As should they, something is definitely off with their stories and if there was foul play with that poor baby’s life then they both definitely deserve whatever sentencing they get. Although, it kind of seems like Kansas is covering for Wendy?

If you were wondering why the investigation was ongoing it’s because  of  Wendy’s inconsistencies in her stories. Plus how and why did the dad have a gunshot wound to his upper arm? I guess we’ll just have to wait for the trial for the full details, if Wendy doesn’t confess before then so that she could get a lesser sentence.

Either way it’s sad that a young little boy lost his life due to someone’s carelessness or worse. Why is it always the kids that suffer the most? If you don’t want the kids put them up for adoption there’s families everywhere wanting a child.

Please, if you have a gun leave it unloaded and locked up where your kids or visiting kids can’t get to it. It’s never worth the risk. Why would she ever take that chance is beyond me. If you know someone that is careless with their firearms, maybe explain the worries and if they ignore you maybe tell your local authorities.

Violent Crimes in Phoenix

Drive by Shooting

Sadly drive by shootings rarely go well for the person being shot at. According to the Phoenix police, a victim of a recent drive by shooting has passed away.

The victim was later identified as twenty-five year old, Kyle Begley. The reports said that the young man was shot around 2:30 p.m. and it was near Oraibi Drive. Oraibi is a quiet little neighborhood near the 7th Avenue and the Loop 101.

According to the police, Begley had to be taken to the local hospital due to his “extremely critical” condition. Sadly he later was pronounced dead at the local hospital.

Police said Begley was seen having a conversation with another man in the driveway of his home. The suspect got into his vehicle, then fired a shot at Begley and drove away from the area.

Neighbor, Dawn Woolworth’s Statement:

All of a sudden, I heard a loud pop and I’m like, what is that?  I’ve lived in this place for 31 years and nothing ever happens here.

A number of police units responded to the scene, along with the Arizona Humane Society. Officers on the scene said they asked for assistance from animal control because they were having trouble with one or more dogs at the victim’s residence.

Police have been asking neighbors for surveillance video.

Police said the suspect was in an older model sedan. The vehicle was silver and possibly a Honda.

The investigation is ongoing.

Children Abused in Apartment

Sometimes apartment’s get a bad rap. Most people think that apartments are gross and filthy and in some cases, like this one they’re right. Sadly two children under three years old were found living in an apartment which had mold, feces, rotting food and bugs in it. This was in Glendale.

The Glendale police reported that on September 29th they arrived on a call to an apartment near 55th Avenue and Camelback Road. The manager of the apartment’s saw a seventeen month old little girl in a playpen which was covered in flies. How heartbreaking for that poor baby that has no defense for it’s self.

The police say that the home was horrible. It smelled like “decomposing body” inside. They also found the little girl and her two and a half year old brother.

The officers found black mold in the apartment as well as nasty standing water on the floor. How gross is that? Officers also saw rotting food, bugs, and both of the children were covered in dirt.

According to the police, the little boy had feces on both sides of his little face. He also had his name written on his forearm with a marker. Poor little guy.

Luckily, the Arizona Department of Child Safety removed the children from the home. They took them to the local hospital to be evaluated.

The father, twenty-five year old, George Philip Riefler told the police that his apartment had been that way for around three months. He told the police that he had been depressed and felt overwhelmed lately. Well yea, of course is your house is nasty like that you’re going to be depressed and definitely over whelmed.

The young father was arrested on two counts of child abuse.

Police Investigate Domestic Dispute Cases

Former MLB Star Arrested for Dispute

Former MLB All-Star Albert Belle was arrested Sunday in Scottsdale on suspicion of driving under the influence and indecent exposure after police say he urinated in the parking lot of a Scottsdale soccer stadium.

Police said one of the people he exposed himself to was a juvenile.

Belle was arrested outside of the Phoenix Rising Stadium just after 10:30 p.m., according to a probable cause statement. He has since been released on his own recognizance.

A man told Salt River police his 15-year-old daughter had witnessed Belle urinating next to the driver’s side door of his car in the parking lot, the report said. The man proceeded to yell at Belle, who responded by shaking his genitals at the father and daughter, court records show.

Officers said Belle had bloodshot eyes and his breath smelled like alcohol, police wrote in the report. Belle admitted to having a verbal altercation with the man, but denied urinating in public. He also told police he had driven his car, the statement said.

Officers noticed two separate wet spots in the parking lot next to where the car was parked, according to the report.

Belle was booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of two counts of indecent exposure, driving under the influence and DUI with a blood-alcohol content of .08 or higher.

The 51-year-old was a five-time All-Star with the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles from 1989 to 2000. A hip problem forced him to retire at 34.

Belle has been a relatively controversial figure for a variety of incidents both on and off the field, from using a corked bat in 1994 to allegedly chasing down teenagers who egged his house on Halloween. In 2006, Belle pleaded guilty to stalking his former girlfriend and was sentenced to 90 days in jail and five years of supervised probation.

Man Cut From Seahawks for Domestic Dispute

The Seattle Seahawks quickly cut quarterback Trevone Boykin after a domestic violence accusation earlier this week, and Boykin was arrested and charged for the incident on Wednesday.

WFAA in Dallas said Boykin, a former TCU star who had been with the Seahawks since they signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2016, was arrested and charged for assaulting his girlfriend. WFAA, citing a police news release, said detectives found surveillance video at Boykin’s home that showed “what appeared to be an assault that occurred inside the residence.” Boykin was charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury, according to WFAA. That’s a second-degree felony punishable by 2-20 years in prison, WFAA said.

Boykin’s girlfriend claimed to WFAA this week that Boykin had broken her jaw.

Police Sgt. William Yale’s Statement:

Basically [detectives] were able to confirm the assault occurred after reviewing the video.

According to the Associated Press, Boykin has denied the allegations. Boykin was in Tarrant County Jail overnight Wednesday and bail had not been set in his case as of Thursday afternoon, WFAA reported.

Boykin’s Girlfriend, Shabrika Bailey’s Statement:

So he goes into a choke. I remember him choking me and I’m trying to calm him down. And I just couldn’t. And I blacked out. I just couldn’t calm him down at all.

Boykin was Russell Wilson’s backup in 2016, then was on Seattle’s practice squad and didn’t appear in a game in 2017.

Man Arrested for Child Abuse

A Tucson man with a history of abuse and neglect allegations is facing charges in the death of his 3-month-old daughter, authorities said.

The Tucson Police Department said Terry Bruner, 26, has been arrested on one count of first-degree murder and five counts of child abuse.

The Arizona Department of Child Safety said Miracle Bruner was transported to the hospital Oct. 27, 2017.

Miracle had “extensive injuries, including retinal hemorrhages and head trauma,” according to DCS. She died Nov. 3 and Bruner was arrested.

According to case documents filed in the Pima County Superior Court, the interim complaint shows the types of trauma the 3-month-old girl went through.

Domestic Child Abuse

The complaint said Bruner first called 911 on Oct. 27, 2017. He indicated, “his 3-month-old daughter, Miracle Bruner, went limp and stopped breathing.”

The child was transported to Tucson Medical Center by the Tucson Fire Department, “where she arrived pulseless,” the complaint stated. Doctors worked on Miracle and Tucson Police Department detectives responded to continue the investigation.

One day later, on Oct. 28, an MRI scan was done on Miracle’s brain. The complaint states the 3-month-old had, “subdural hematomas, edema (swelling of the brain), Ischemia (inadequate blood supply to the brain) which were all indicative of abusive head trauma consistent with non-accidental trauma also referred to as shaken baby syndrome.”

That same day an X-Ray was done on Miracle and revealed 10 healing rib fractures and fractured bones in her legs.

Bruner admitted to detectives that he takes care of Miracle while the child’s mother works nights and sleeps during the day.

Complaint Read:

He admitted he may have soothed the baby in a rough manner or picked her up too fast by one arm in a rough manner or swaddled her too tight but denied ever shaking the baby at any time and could not explain how the injuries or burns occurred.

A jail phone call, revealed in the complaint, between Bruner and Miracle’s mother shed light on his distress at the time. When she told Terry Bruner of the extent of the injuries to Miracle he stated, “What did I do! What did I do!”

DCS said it investigated Bruner two times since 2011.

In May 2011, Bruner was accused of abusing two young children in the home where he lived. DCS said the allegations were unsubstantiated and the case was closed.

In August 2017, Miracle’s mother was accused of neglect. DCS said Miracle’s mother was receiving “services in the community to address her needs” and the case was closed.

There were no other children in Bruner’s home at the time of the incident, according to DCS.

The Pima County Superior Court schedule shows Bruner is scheduled to be back in court Thursday, March 29. The public defender he was assigned for an active felony domestic violence case does not have a contract with Pima County to defend individuals charged with First Degree Murder.

Jury trial is expected to begin in September 2018, court records show.

Human Trafficking Near Phoenix

86 Found in Human Trafficking Incident

The Phoenix Police Department along with Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton announced Thursday their completion of a recent vice operation. According to officials, the completion of the recent human trafficking operation resulted in 86 criminal arrests in just 10 days.

Undercover detectives opened a massage parlor and arrested patrons who wanted them to perform sexual acts.

The arrests occurred last December near the area of 7th Street and Greenway Road.

The suspects were men and their ages ranged from 22 to 78 years.

Mayor Stanton said that the task force has made the city get tougher on enforcement.

Mayor Stanton’s Statement:

That’s why we created the human trafficking task force four years ago. To bring together outstanding community leaders, partners, to offer our city resources and to make sure we are taking the lead on ending human trafficking in our community.

Mayor Stanton added that the task force is turning the city of Phoenix “into a national model for combating human trafficking.”

Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams said the arrests were a reminder of what a huge impact sex trafficking has on the community.

Chief Jeri Williams Statement:

It’s a global issue, but that’s not stopping us in the city from taking advantages that we have in our partnerships and Councilman (Jim) Waring alluded to this a little bit, every arrest counts.

Phoenix police say they’ll continue with these investigations and arrest “anyone participating in this criminal behavior.”

Mayor Stanton said that if the public sees something, they should say something and call the national hotline at 1-888-373-7888.

Traffickers Arrested

Four Arizona juveniles have been rescued from sex trafficking through the FBI’s Operation Cross Country XI, according to officials.

Seven alleged Arizona traffickers were arrested during the four-day nationwide effort that focused on underage human trafficking. Nationally, 84 minors were rescued and 120 suspected traffickers were arrested.

Michael Caputo’s (Special Agent) Statement:

This crime has no boundaries and can impact any child, of any race or ethnicity, anywhere from large cities to small-town communities.

the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and Phoenix Police Department helped rescue the four juveniles. In total, nine Arizona police departments and four sheriff’s offices were involved in the operation.

This is the 11th iteration of Operation Cross Country and involved 55 field offices and 78 local and state task forces across the U.S.

As part of the operation, the FBI and task-force agents set up in hotels, casinos, truck stops, street corners and websites to try and rescue juveniles. The average age of victims was 15 years old and the youngest victim was 3 months old, the FBI reports.

Examples of stories the FBI released detail undercover agents being offered sexual favors from friends of a minor’s family or online advertisements. One agent was asked to pay $600.

Minors rescued in the operation are offered assistance from state protective services and the FBI’s Victim Services Division. Victims who require more attention are offered medical care and mental-health counseling.

The FBI said it contacted 86 adult victims in Arizona and offered resources.

Operation Cross Country began as part of the FBI’s Innocence Lost National Initiative, which was founded in 2003.

 Two Arrested In Trafficking Case

Police have arrested two men accused of child sex trafficking multiple victims in Arizona and Texas.

Mesa police say 24-year-old Oshay Small and 21-year-old Cornelius Wells were arrested near Metro Center Mall following a five-month investigation into the sexual exploitation and trafficking of 15-year-old girls through the website Backpage.com.

Police say the suspects first contacted the victims through Facebook and began exploiting them several days later. The victims left home and were reported as runaways while they were being exploited, according to police.

Investigators say an additional juvenile female and two adult females were also being exploited and some of the victims were transported to Tucson and El Paso, Texas.

The suspects allegedly used Backpage.com to advertise and locate buyers, and they received proceeds from exploiting the victims.

Mesa police detectives located the suspects at a hotel near Metro Center Mall where they were taken into custody. An adult female victim was with the suspects at the time of their arrest.

Sex Trafficking Victim

Both suspects face multiple counts of child sex trafficking.

Small is being held on $75,000 bond and Wells is being held on $50,000 bond.

If you have any information on someone being trafficked, you’re asked to contact your local police department or the National Human Trafficking hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or humantraffickinghotline.org.

Federal Crimes

In the United States, a Federal Crime or Federal Offense is an act that is made illegal by U.S. Federal legislation. In the United States, criminal law and prosecution happen at both the federal and state levels; thus a “federal crime” is one that is prosecuted under federal criminal law, and not under a state’s criminal law, under which most of the crimes committed in the United States are prosecuted. Whether a crime is considered Federal or State jurisdiction often depends on the location of the crime and where it falls within US State or territory lines. Numerous federal agencies have been granted powers to investigate federal offenses to include, but are not limited to the ATF, DEA, FBI, ICE, IRS, and the Secret Service. Federal crimes may include:

  • Tax Evasion
  • Possession of Weapons Banned by the National Firearms Act
  • Vehicular Manslaughter
  • Rape
  • Mail Fraud
  • Counterfeiting
  • Aircraft Hijacking
  • Kidnapping
  • Bank Robbery
  • Child Pornography
  • Art Theft
  • Damaging or Destroying Public Mailboxes
  • Immigration Offenses
  • The Assassination or Attempted Assassination of the President or Vice President
  • Drug-Related Offenses

Difference Between Federal and State Cases

It is important to understand that federal criminal cases are different from state cases. The Federal Sentencing Guidelines provide courts with significant guidance in such cases. Federal drug cases often involve mandatory prison sentences, as stated above. In addition, federal prosecutors often wait until they have a very strong case before bringing charges, so the government may have considerable evidence it intends to use against you at any potential future trial.

Mother Arrested for Six Charges of Child Abuse

Phoenix Mother Arrested For Child Abuse

New details have emerged in a case against Phoenix resident Alejandrina Angel Flores, 27, arrested last week. She was also charged with six counts of child abuse.

According to court documents, the Phoenix Police Department received a call from Flores’ sister last Thursday about a domestic-violence situation at Flores’ apartment. According to the sister, Flores’ boyfriend was holding a knife in a threatening way. However, when officers arrived at the scene, they found something vastly different.

The following story comes from Phoenix Officer Anthony Daley, whose graphic probable-cause statement details what happened when he and two other officers arrived at Flores’ apartment near 37th Avenue and Camelback Road.

Officer Daley’s Statement:

When [Flores] opened the door, a very strong odor of decomposing trash and food hit me. It was very strong and made it hard to breathe.

Flores told the officers that the story about her boyfriend wasn’t true, though it can be assumed this probably was no longer their primary concern at this point.

“Behind Flores, I observed six kids [that were approximately] a few months, one, two, three, five, and six [years old],” Daley wrote.

He goes on to describe the way the baby, who was “laying on her back on the couch” had a “very full diaper and appeared to have not been changed in a long time” and that the older children “were wearing dirty clothes and appeared to have not been changed or bathed in several days.”

All six children were covered in dirt, and “The one year old was walking around wearing no clothes. [She] had an obvious diaper rash and sore [on] her butt cheek, and I could also observe feces between her butt cheeks,” Daley wrote.

Horrified by the scene in front of him, Officer Daley asked Flores if he could conduct a welfare check in the apartment, and she agreed.

While the six kids shared a bag of gummies, Daley looked through the two-bedroom apartment: “When walking on the floor, my shoe would stick,” he wrote. “It appeared the floors have no been washed in several weeks [and] were covered in food, trash, and dirt.”

Disgusting Child Abuse Case

He saw a wall outlet with something electrical hanging “loose” from it in the living room, and in the kitchen, he found the sink faucet running over a large pile of dirty dishes. He describes the refrigerator and freezer as “dirty” and says he saw “cockroach eggs” in the corners of the ceiling.

Daley’s Written Report:

In the bathroom he found a toilet filled with feces and dirty toilet paper, and noted that the floor was covered in trash and soiled diapers. There were cockroaches crawling out of the shower drain.

As he left the bathroom, Daley saw an “unknown yellow liquid puddle” in the hallway. He then asked the 6-year-old to show him where he slept, and the boy pointed to one of the two bedrooms. Daley walked into the room, which had no bed and no light fixtures, and this is what he found:

Daley’s Continued Report:

There was a door on the ground with a folded cardboard box. There [were] Christmas lights hanging from the [ceiling] to the ground and a pile of dirty kids’ clothes in he closet. While walking through the apartment I had difficulty breathing and had to exit to catch my breath due to the odor.

Later in the probable-cause statement, Daley wrote that Flores told one of the other officers that the apartment had bedbugs . Also that there was a woman claiming to be the apartment manager approached the officers and said the cleanliness of the apartment was an ongoing problem. “She stated in the past she has observed maggots on the floor of the apartment.”

Flores was said to not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time, but apparently didn’t notice or didn’t care that her children were playing with a pair of scissors while Daley was conducting the welfare check. Flores claimed the diaper rash on the 1-year-old actually was chicken pox.

One of the other officers called the Department of Child Safety. They then sent out two employees to take custody of the children.

DCS spokesman Doug Nick tells New Times that the agency “is aware of this incident, and we can confirm that all the children are safe.” According to court documents, Flores did not have family members who could take the children.

Flores was booked into the Fourth Avenue jail on March 4. She was released on her own recognizance the following day. She faces six criminal counts of child abuse. Flores will appear in court for a status conference on March 18, 2016.

Arizona Child Cruelty Cases

Phoenix Police Detective Faces Child Abuse Charges

When you think of a police officer, you mainly think of hero. You never dream of them being involved in child abuse. However that isn’t always the case.  According to the reports a former Phoenix Police detective and his wife are now going to face charges for their connection with the death of a man’s young daughter.

The little girl, seven year old, Sanna Cunningham sadly died in Februrary 2017 however Germayn and Lis Cunningham weren’t indicted on the child abuse charges until several months later. On January 2nd they were finally arraigned on those charges.

In Court, thirty-seven year old Germayne, pleaded not guilty to a count of First Degree Murder as well as 11 counts of Felony Child Abuse. Lisa had a hard time breathing so couldn’t make the arraignment due to being taken to the local hospital. The arraignment was postponed by a judge.

Prosecutors asked that Cunningham be taken into custody and held on a $1 million bond.

Prosecutor Joshua Clark’s Statement:

There has been information circulated that he cashed out his retirement, meaning he has the means to flee or leave the state.

The judge had other plans though, Cunningham could remain a free man but must wear a tracking monitor.

The Goodyear Police continued to investigate the case and found that Germayne and stepmother Lisa had abused and neglected the child since at least June 2016. The Court documents showed that they allegedly forced the young girl to sleep outside and restrained her with zip ties. They even locked her in the garage and laundry room.

According to The Department of Child Safety, there were multiple visits made to the family’s home over the last several months however there wasn’t ever enough evidence to justify taking Sanna from the home.

However, the Cunninghams are being indicted by a grand jury on 10 counts of child abuse and one first degree murder charge.

Germanyne Cunningham was with the Phoenix Police Department for 12 years before he resigned in September. It’s not known if the Goodyear Police investigation into his daughter’s death had anything to do with why he left the force.

Couple Arrested for Child Abuse Case

How can anyone willingly hurt a anyone let alone an innocent child? As a parent this is one of the most unthinkable things.

Now a Lake Havasu City man has been arrested and charged with child abuse after a two year old girl had to be hospitalized due to life threatening injuries.

Police and fire crews had to respond to a report of a female child who wasn’t breathing. This happened in the 2800 block of Appletree Drive. The little girl was immediately transported to the local hospital. Officials said that based on the circumstances and at first observations that the detectives with the Lake Havasu City Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit started an investigation.

Police say that the girl’s father, twenty-one year old, Andrew J. Lamorie was charged with child abuse per domestic violence, aggravated assault per domestic violence, child neglect, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sounds like he’ll be spending some time in jail.

The poor child remains in critical condition and is struggling with his or her life threatening injuries.

Cover Up Abuse

The daycare owner at the center of a child abuse cover-up at his Phoenix facility was sentenced in court on Tuesday.

Ruben Sandoval served two days in jail prior to sentencing and will not get any additional jail time if he completes a year of probation and pays a $950 fine. He is also required to complete 130 hours of community service.

Sandoval owns Brighter Angels Learning Center near Central Avenue and Baseline Road, as well as several other locations around the state.

Man Convicted of Child Abuse

He was convicted of covering up child abuse after a 21-month-old boy was smacked in the face with a broomstick by an employee back in February. He was also accused of seeing surveillance video of the multiple strikes. But, Sandoval allegedly told the employee to not talk to police and drafted a note to the victim’s mother saying the boy tripped and fell instead.

Three employees, including Sandoval were convicted of abuse or covering up abuse.

However, the Arizona Department of Health Services decided the facility was able to stay open. This also comes after ABC15 uncovered more than 35 additional citations that were handed down to the daycare since the abuse occurred.

Sandoval is also still able to run all the facilities in the state, despite his conviction in Phoenix City Court.

Toddler Who Was Abused Has Now Passed Away

According to court documents, the doctors at a Valley hospital found that a little four year old girl suffered severe brain and spinal injuries and signs of sexual abuse.

Sadly the little girl died just a few days later.

Police said that twenty-four year old, Major Aaron Murry admitted to striking the little girl after she spilled some milk. At the time of the initial hearing the Judge said that the little girl may or may not survive her horrible injuries.

Initial reports say that Murry was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of child abuse.

Babysitter Child Abuse

Murry was trusted to watch over the little girl while her mother was at work. However that didn’t work out so well for the poor child. Murry admitted to becoming angry at the girl and then hitting her when she spilled milk near his Xbox video game system. The hit caused her to fall and hit her head.

The court documents say that Murry went to lay the girl down for a nap and when he later checked on her she was unresponsive. He told the police he tried to revive her.

According to the Doctor reports the girl had bruising on her ear, forehead and face and other injuries to her little spine.
