Phoenix Police Investigating Body Found in Suitcase

Body Found in a Suitcase Causes Police Investigation

On Thursday, the Phoenix Police Department started an investigation for a body that was found inside of a suitcase.  The homicide detectives came to the scene which was in the area of 16th Street and Bell Road. Sgt. Jonathan Howard said that this was after some restaurant workers found the body inside of the suitcase.

Police Investigate and Find Adult Body in Suitcase

Sgt. Howard stated that the homicide detectives were able to open up the suitcase enough to know that the body is probably the body of an adult. He also said that the Maricopa County Medical Examiner had picked up the suitcase and would be performing an autopsy.

The body was found outside of the “The Codfather” restaurant, owned by Mark Briner. Mr. Briner said that his employee had went to throw out the trash and found the suitcase around ten, thirty in the morning.

Mr.Briner’s Statement

She went to lift it and it was kind of heavy and then she undone it and obviously found a body in there.

The worker at the restaurant told Mr.Briner’s wife then told him as well about what she found. Mr. Briner then went outside to check for himself and then called the police.

Sgt. Howard’s Statement:

It’s scary. It’s sad that somebody has the ability to take a human being and maybe stuff them into a suitcase and leave them next to a dumpster.

At this time the case is being treated as a homicide. The police are investigating and looking into the surveillance video from the restaurant to hopefully be able to learn some more information about who might have done this. If anyone has any information about this, please contact the police or Silent Witness.

Two Men Arrested For Kidnapping and Assaulting a Woman

Woman Kidnapped and Assaulted from Tempe Bar

Two men in the Buckeye area have now been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and violently assaulting a woman earlier in the month. The Buckeye Police Department says that the female victim had been out drinking at a local bar in Tempe on November 14th. She then claims she woke up in the desert near the Interstate 10 and Watson Road.

The woman said that she does not remember how she got out to the desert or even leaving the bar that night. However, her friends witnessed two men talking to her that night and her then getting into a white car. The friends tried to call the female victim but she would not answer her phone.

Buckeye Police Press Release Statement:

The victim was brutally attacked, both physically and sexually.

A tracking device that was on the victim’s phone was able to lead the police to a home in Buckeye. The police investigators got to the scene and was able to arrest twenty-four year old Damian Hernandez as well as twenty-two year old, Esai Leon on November 28th. They were booked into jail on charges of “sexual assault, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence”.

Commander Mark Mann from the Buckeye Police Department Statement:

These guys are predators, they target women. They brutally and violent beat them and left them alone in the desert.

The police say that the suspects even admitted that they were in Tempe, however they “pointed the finger” at each other when it came to who assaulted the woman. The police also said that one of the suspects had thrown her boots and cell phone out the window of their car after they had assaulted her.

Neighbor to the Suspects, Dustin Scheas Statment:

I’m appalled. Coming from a man who has sisters, has a daughter. What he did was to someone’s daughter, and it’s disgusting. They have no respect for life clearly.

Police served search warrants to both of the suspects homes on Wednesday. They were hoping to find some evidence to link them to some similar cases around the area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Buckeye Police Department at 623-349-6400.

Police Investigate Phoenix Officer Who Shot a Suspect

An officer can some times be a scary thing. However, for the most part they just try to save lives and make the world a safer place. An officer shot a suspect recently in the North Phoenix area and now the authorities are investigating.

According to the report, the officer being shot incident happened around five, thirty in the evening. The shooting happened at an apartment complex which was in or near the 25th Avenue and Greenway Road.

Police Investigate Another Scene When Someone Got Shot

The Phoenix police say that the officer who was shot, was at the apartment complex on an unrelated call. That is when the officer had gotten report of a drug deal going down inside of a Cadillac Escalade which was nearby. Luckily no one else was injured. Police did say that they have one other person detained for some questioning. However, it’s unclear if the person they have detained is the other person who was in the Escalade.  The officers also say that when they searched the vehicle that they had found marijuana and even a weapon inside of the vehicle.

The police have not identified the officer or his shooter suspect at this time. You can visit the ABC15 news site if you would like more updates on this story. Hopefully the officer

New Domestic Violence Shelter Gives Victims Hope

Victims of Domestic Abuse Go to Shelter and Receive Hope

Domestic violence is often getting shoved under the rug. It seems like you can beat your spouse, go to jail for a week then just a probation period. Recently it’s becoming more popular for people in the public eye, such as football players or baseball players to be able to be accused of domestic violence and they just get a little slap on the wrist and everything is all good.  However, there are domestic violence advocates trying to bring awareness and trying to turn headlines about domestic violence into a different sight.

Maria Garay’s Statement about Domestic Violence

Historically we don’t want to talk about domestic violence. And I think for the first time the NFL. and the focus on them is allowing people to talk about domestic violence. I think that’s a very good think because we need to talk about it more as society. One in 4 women will be impacted by domestic violence.

Maria runs the “Sojourner Center” which is an “organizations that offers shelter to women and children who are victims of domestic violence”.  Since this is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Sojourner Center is concentrating on relaunching their efforts of awareness of domestic violence. The shelter center is also going to be reaching out to the community to help those victim families who have pets as well as doing more research to get insight of what causes domestic violence.

Maria’s Statement about Plans for the Shelter

Pets, believe it or not are a big factor in domestic violence. Many women don’t want to leave because they have a pet and they don’t want to leave the animal behind.

The shelter center is also trying to research more about a new trend that they have been seeing amongst the domestic violence victims. They’ve noticed that a lot of the women are showing signs of head trauma and signs of a concussion.

Maria’s Statement

95% of women who have been impacted by domestic violence report that they have concussions or similar trauma brain injuries. That’s significant and we need to do and know more.

They are asking that if you know of anyone who has or is a victim of domestic abuse/violence to please call the National Domestic Violence Hotline 1-800-799-7233.

Man Pushed Onto Tracks, Struck by Train

Man Pushed Onto Subway Train Track and Killed

According to the police a man who was standing on a subway platform with his wife had been pushed onto the tracks Sunday morning. They said it was by another man. The victim was struck and killed by an oncoming train. Whoever pushed the man fled the scene. How horrible would that be? Just enjoying a Sunday with your honey then bam, someone ends it just by a little shove.

The police say that the unidentified man pushed the sixty-one year old, Wai Kuen Kwok off of the platform at the Grand Concourse and East 67th Street station. The authorities say that the act appeared to be “unprovoked”. Mr. Kwok was hit by a southbound D train at 8:40 in the morning. He was then pronounced dead at the scene. Police are calling this a homicide. Luckily, his wife wasn’t injured as well.

Suspect Had No Known Motive for Pushing Man onto Train Tracks

Police say that there was no indication that Kwok knew the suspect or that they had, had an altercation before Mr. Kwok was pushed. Witnesses told the police that they thought the man had fled the subway station after shoving Kwok and jumped onto a City bus.

The authorities later released a video surveillance that showed a man wearing a dark jacket. He was getting off of a city bus and walked into a store. The man later comes out of the store and was smoking a cigarette, then walked away. The Police say that the man is wanted for questioning in the connection of Mr. Kwok’s death.

Train accidents are common, unfortunately but being pushed onto the tracks for no reason isn’t. Hopefully the police can find the suspect and give the victim’s wife some peace knowing her husband’s killer is caught.
