Felon Sentenced For Shooting Phoenix Police Officer

Man Shoots Phoenix Officer and Sentenced for 62 Years

A convicted felon has now been sentenced to sixty-two years in prison for the 2013 shooting that had wounded a Phoenix Police Officer. These police officers put their life on the line to keep our lives safe, so I’m glad this officer will get some peace knowing that his shooter is facing the consequences. Not often enough, do the victims get to see justice from the suspects. This was a win for all wounded police officers.

The Maricopa County prosecutors say that the shooter, Brandon McCabe was sentenced on Thursday to an “aggravated term”.  He had been convicted back in August for attempted first-degree murder as well as: aggravated assault, criminal trespassing, misconduct involving weapons, and resisting arrest.  Quite a colorful past for our shooter.

McCabe Has Criminal Past

On January 6, 2013 Brandon McCabe was accused of shooting Police Officer, Peter “Chris” Bennett on that January night.  Luckily thirty-six year old Officer Bennett survived his gunshot wounds. He suffered injuries to his face, right hip, and right arm. Apparently Officer Bennett survived the wounds. He approached the shooter, McCabe in an area which has a pretty high burglary rate.

Brandon had ignored the Officer’s command and then the two then exchanged gunfire. McCabe was then arrested after he was found hiding in a nearby shed, like a little coward. He also had some gunshot wounds to both of his hands. Sounds like it would have been a crazy gun shoot out.

Hopefully less officers are injured keeping our streets safe. They work hard all year round with many hours, they definitely do not get paid enough. Let’s hope Officer Bennett’s recovery goes well and he’s back to being himself.  We need more police and more citizens like Officer Bennett and less people like McCabe in this crazy world.

Man Attacks College Girl On Her Way to Dorm

Investigation Into Man Attacking College Girl

The police are investigating a attack of a Grand Canyon University student that was attacked on Tuesday night.  Jonathan Howard, who is a Sgt. at the Phoenix Police stated that the attack happened around eight o’clock in the evening. It happened right across the street from the campus which is near 35th Avenue and Camelback Road.

Sgt. Howard said that the college student was walking to her dorm when a man suddenly attacked her with a knife. The young woman was able to use her pepper spray and a whistle to escape. Which is awesome. More women need to quit thinking it’s stupid to carry such things, it could save your life!

Grand Canyon University spokesman, Bob Romantic told the NEWS that the young lady was able to walk to a security office and report the attack.

College Student’s Quick Thinking Save Her Life

The police say that the young woman had suffered minor injuries to her stomach, but she is expected to be okay. Sgt. Howard said that the suspect however, was able to get away. Police are looking for a Hispanic male who is in his twenties. He’s around five foot, nine inches tall. Last seen wearing a dark t-shirt and jeans.

According to Romanitc’s response, the school has removed a fence that had been set up on the edge of campus. They also installed more lights. Hopefully people won’t be lurking around campus anymore.

The school issued the following statement Wednesday night:

The safety of our students is of utmost importance to the university. We are thankful the student is OK and are working with the Phoenix Police Department to investigate the incident further.

Phoenix Police have also stepped up the patrols in that area to help out on the potential threats.

Man Dies After Strange Events Happen in Phoenix

Man Dies in Phoenix After a Series of Strange Events

Sunday morning in Phoenix, a man died after a series of strange events happening. The incident is till being investigated at this time. The Phoenix Police say that the officers were called to 39th and Orangewood Avenues in Phoenix around sick o’clock in the morning.  This was after they had recieved several calls from a forty-eight year old man who claimed he was undergoing a medical issue. The dispatchers say that the statements that the man was making seemed like the man was having hallucinations and didn’t make any sense.

Neighbors also made calls to the authorities, saying that the man was disturbing them. The man had been reportedly trying to break into several homes and was throwing items, and damaging properties. He even got into several confrontations with some of the neighbors.

Victim Neighbor Statement about the Phoenix Incident

I [had] him at gunpoint… screaming like, ‘Don’t come in! I got a gun and I got kids, and I’m going to shoot you!

Apparently the man had tried to break into a neighbor’s home and broke the front window and tried to get into the house. Police had recieved around fifteen calls about the man. They’re not quite sure how many was from the man himself though.

Neighbor Statement:

I was not going to put [my family] at risk, he was insane.

When the officers got to the scene, they tried to contact the man however he didn’t believe they were there to help him. He then proceeded to try to punch the officers. After a struggle with the authorities they pulled him off the ground and was able to detain him. However, the soon realized the man had stopped breathing.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police do not know what happened exactly but they are looking into the incident. The man had not been tasered and there were no known medical conditions with him.

Medical Marijuana Still Counts as DUI

Court Ruling Proves Medical Marijuana Can Cause DUI

People have been speculating like crazy ever since laws have been passing for the use of Marijuana medical or residential. Citizens have had a ton of questions how this is going to work? What if someone uses Marijuana and then drives? Will they be punished? Is there a limit to how much you can smoke? How do you know how that will affect the person using it?

Arizona lawmakers have answered some of those tough questions. A recent court ruling says that Arizona residents who have Medical Marijuana Cards that allows them to legally smoke pot can and will be prosecuted under certain laws against driving under the influence while they have Marijuana in their system.

Court Rules For Making it Possible for DUI if Using Marijuana

A state Court of Appeals panel, which consists of three judges has ruled just last month, that a medical Marijuana user is not immune from prosecution under the DUI laws. Seems like Arizona law is making it pretty clear they are not allowing people to use Marijuana as an excuse to drive recklessly. There was a different panel of Court of Appeals judges who has also reached the same decision in a ruling on Tuesday.

The worries comes from a case of two defendants who both had medical marijuana cards. The two defendants tried to point at a medical marijuana law provision that would provide partial legal shield for the use of marijuana (pot) that is prescribed by a physician. Of course, the latest ruling shows that physicians do not actually prescribe medical marijuana, they just certify a patient’s eligibility to do so.

So don’t think you can get a little buzz then drive and say it’s ok because it’s medical marijuana, that excuse won’t work in Arizona.

Woman Charged in Fatal Shooting At Phoenix Sports Bar

Woman Sentenced for Fatal Shooting Outside of Phoenix Bar

Bars in America can either be the funnest time of your life or the scariest. Most people go to have a fabulous time, but sometimes you never know how the alcohol will settle with some people. Or maybe you’re having a fun night with someone dancing and then a jealous ex or current boyfriend or girlfriend come in and see the situation and then things get really crazy.

A woman has been accused of fatally shooting a man and injuring another person outside of a Phoenix Sports Bar. She has recently changed her plea to guilty in the shooting case.

Woman Guilty in Phoenix Bar Shooting

The Maricopa County prosecutors have said that Jessica Wood who is twenty-nine years old has pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a second-degree murder charge and attempted first-degree murder. Her sentencing will be on Friday, December 19th of this year.

Jessica has been charged for the shooting back in March of this year. The shooting happened outside of Zipps Sports Grill which is located in North-Central Phoenix.

According to the Phoenix Police, Jessica Wood approached two men, just before midnight. She opened fire without provocation. However, the Phoenix investigators think that she may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the shooting.

Phoenix Police say that the man died that night, Thomas Allen Marcussen died from his injuries in the shooting. The other man, James Swain luckily survived that terrible night.

It’s horrible how much drugs and alcohol can change someone. If you’re having addiction problems, please get to the nearest rehab center and get some help. Not only are you hurting yourself, but you could be hurting other people…just like Jessica. You never know when a binge can turn into a killing, whether it’s killing you or someone else.
